Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah

Sheikh Sabah IV Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (Arabic: صباح الأحمد الجابر الصباح Sabāh al-Ahmad al-Jābir as-Sabāh; born June 16, 1929) is the Emir of Kuwait. Sheikh Sabah was sworn in on January 29, 2006 after confirmation by the National Assembly of Kuwait. He is the fourth son of Emir Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Sheikh Sabah is the head of the ruling Al-Sabah family. Currently, he is introducing many new projects in Kuwait to increase the tourism industry. He is also a strong advocate for women’s rights in the Middle East.

Sheikh Abu Abdullah Sabah I bin Jaber Al Sabah (Sabah I; c. 1652-1762 (or 1758 or 1764) (Arabic: أبو سلمان صباح الأول‎) was the first Ruler of Kuwait's ruling al-Sabah dynasty. The official Kuwaiti history states that he was unanimously chosen for the position of sheikh.

Sheikh Abdullah I Al-Sabah (Reign: 1762 - 3 May 1814)

Sheikh Abdullah I bin Sabah Al-Sabah (Abdullah I; 1740 - May 5, 1814) was the second ruler of Kuwait's Al-Sabah dynasty, ruling from 1764 to May 3, 1814. He was the youngest son of Sabah bin Jaber, upon whose death he succeeded. He was elected to the position by chiefs and notables despite his standing as the youngest son. He is also the father of Jaber I Al-Sabah who succeeded him.

Bin Sabah is credited with building the first defensive walls in Kuwait. During his reign, Kuwait also extended its commercial contacts into what is now India, Yemen, and Iraq. Also during this period, Kuwait established relations with the British East India Company.

Sheikh Jaber I Al-Sabah (Reign: 1814 - 1859)

Sheikh Jaber bin Abdullah (Arabic: جابر بن عبد الله ‎; Jaber I or Jaber Al-Aish; 1770–1859) was the third ruler of Kuwait's royal Al-Sabah dynasty, ruling from 1814-1859. He is the eldest son of Abdullah bin Sabah who he succeeded upon Sheikh Abdullah's death.

The British had requested that Bin Abdullah allow them to turn Kuwait into a protectorate, he refused.

Nicknamed Jaber Al-Aish, Bin Abdullah was said to have generously given rice and bread to the poor.

Sheikh Sabah II bin Jaber Al-Sabah (1784/1810(disputed)-November 1866) was the fourth al-Sabah emir of Kuwait, ruling from 1859 to November 1866. He was the eldest son of Jaber I Al-Sabah who he succeeded. Sheikh Sabah negotiated the Anglo-Kuwaiti Maritime truce of 1841.

Sheikh Abdullah II bin Sabah Al-Sabahhad two sons.Sheikh Jaber bin Abdullah II Al-Sabah(1860-1920) and Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah II Al-Sabah.Sheikh Jaber bin Abdullah II Al-Sabah (1860-1920) was a Cavalry Commander and died in the Battle of Al-Jahra (1920) in the hands of his only son Sheikh Abdullah bin Jaber Al-Sabah( 1898-1997).

Sheikh Muhammad I Al-Sabah (Reign: May 1892 - 17 May 1896)

Sheikh Muhammad al-Sabah Al-Sabah (1831 – May 17, 1896) was the sixth Sheikh of Kuwait from the Al-Sabah dynasty. He ruled between May 1892 and May 17, 1896 during which he held the title of Pasha from the Ottoman Sultan. He was the second son of Sabah II Al-Sabah and succeeded his half-brother Abdullah II Al-Sabah upon his death. He was assassinated in his House by his brother, Mubarak Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, "the Great" (Reign: 18 May 1896 - 28 November 1915)

Mubarak bin Sabah Al-Sabah, KCSI, KCIE (1844 - November 28, 1915) (Arabic: الشيخ مبارك بن صباح الصباح‎) "the Great" was the ruler of Kuwait from May 18, 1896 until his death on November 28, 1915. Mubarak ascended the throne upon the controversial death of his half-brother, Muhammad Al-Sabah. Mubarak was the seventh ruler of the Al-Sabah dynasty. Mubarak was also the father of two rulers of Kuwait that succeeded him, Jaber and Salim, from which the Al-Jaber and Al-Salim in the Al-Sabah family branches originated from respectively.

Sheikh Mubarak signed the Anglo-Kuwaiti Treaty with Great Britain on November 23, 1899,[citation needed] pledging himself and his successors not to receive foreign agents or representatives or to cede or sell territory without the approval of the British government, with this agreement, and the guarantee it represented in Kuwait and the Al-Sabah family, he is regarded as the founder of modern day Kuwait.

Sheikh Jaber II Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, CSI, (1860-February 5, 1917) was the eighth Sheikh of Kuwait from the Al-Sabah line. He was the eldest son of Mubarak Al-Sabah and is the ancestor of the Al-Jaber branch of the Al-Sabah family. He ruled from November 28, 1915 to his death on February 5, 1917 and was succeeded by his brother, Salim Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Salim I Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah (Reign: 5 February 1917 - 22 February 1921)

Sheikh Salim Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, CSI (1864 - February 22, 1921) was the ninth sheikh of Kuwait of the line of Al-Sabah. He was the second son of Mubarak Al-Sabah and is the ancestor of the Al-Salem branch of the Al-Sabah family. He ruled from February 5, 1917 to February 22, 1921. Prior to his ascension, he served as the governor of Kuwait City from 1915 to 1917. He succeeded his brother Jaber II Al-Sabah upon his death.

Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, (1885 - 29 January 1950) (Arabic: أحمد الجابر الصباح‎) was sheikh of Kuwait from 29 March 1921 until 29 January 1950, and the 10th ruler of the Al-Sabah dynasty of Kuwait.

During his reign, the borders of Kuwait were re-drawn at a meeting in 'Uqayr by Sir Percy Cox. Ahmad and many Kuwawitis were angry over the new borders, because approximately one-third of Kuwait's territory was ceded to 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, the ruler of Najd (and later, Saudi Arabia).

Abdullah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah GCMG, CIE, KStJ (1895 - 24 November 1965) (Arabic: عبد الله الثالث السالم الصباح‎) was the last Sheikh and first Emir of Kuwait from 29 January 1950 until his death, and the eldest son of Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. As the eleventh ruler of the al-Sabah dynasty in Kuwait, he took power after the death of his cousin Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He also ruled as regent upon the death of his father until the election of Sheikh Ahmad.

Unlike his predecessors, he was more pro-Arab than pro-British. He effectively ended the British "protectorate" status of Kuwait by signing a treaty with the British on 19 June 1961. As a man he was known to be modest, of considerable intelligence and for having a keen interest in matters of the intellect. His reign coincided with turbulent times in the middle-east as well as the rest of the third world. He introduced the Constitution of Kuwait in 1962, followed by the parliament in 1963. He also declared himself as "Emir" and head of state.

Emir Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah (Reign: 24 November 1965 - 31 December 1977)

Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah, KCMG (1913 - December 31, 1977) (Arabic: صباح السالم الصباح‎) Emir of Kuwait from 1965 to 1977, and youngest son of Salim Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah. Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah succeeded his half-brother Abdullah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah upon his death on November 24, 1965. He was the 12th ruler of the Al-Sabah dynasty of Kuwait, and the second bearing the title of "Emir". He died from cancer on December 31, 1977. Prior to his ascension, he served as the president of the police department from 1953 to 1959, President of the public health department from 1959 to 1961, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1962 to 1963, and Prime Minister from 1963 to 1965. He was appointed as Crown Prince on October 29, 1962.

Emir Jaber III Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (Reign: 31 December 1977 - 15 January 2006)

Jaber III al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, GCB (Hon), GCMG (Hon) (Arabic: جابر الأحمد الجابر الصباح‎; June 29, 1926 – January 15, 2006) of the al-Sabah dynasty, was the Emir and thirteenth Sheikh of Kuwait, serving from December 31, 1977 until his death on January 15, 2006. The third monarch to rule Kuwait since its independence from Britain, Jaber had previously served as Minister of Finance and Economy from 1961 until 1965, when he was appointed Prime Minister prior to becoming Kuwait's ruler.

Jaber is most famous for having been monarch of Kuwait during the 1990-91 Iraqi invasion of his country, which led to the Gulf War in which his country was liberated by an international coalition acting under United Nations sanction, composed of troops from the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom and France, together with forces from several Arab states.

Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, KCMG (Hon) (Arabic: سعد العبد الله السالم الصباح‎ Saʿd al-ʿAbd Allāh as-Sālim as-Sabāh) (ca. 1930 – 13 May 2008) was the Emir of Kuwait during a short reign of nine days (15 January to 24 January 2006), succeeding the late Sheikh Jaber.

Sheikh Saad belonged to the Al-Salim branch of the Al-Sabah family and was eldest son of the late Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, who ruled Kuwait from 1950-65.
